Physical Confidence DVDs by Pickup101 Review
Women have highly evolved systems of “reading a guy” to know whether or not he’s worth talking to. Guys who lack physical confidence are rarely if ever given a real chance with their opening. Even a guy with a great opener and advanced conversational skill will look incongruent if his body language doesn’t match the cool things coming out of his mouth. And more importantly, the message of physical confidence is sent before you even talk, so the first impression a woman has of a guy is almost ALWAYS his body language.
This makes PickUp101’s “Physical Confidence” DVD set a killer product even if it’s not perfect. Lance, Sean, & Daniel show that having your physical game down is fundamental — it’s like a canvas that the rest of your game gets painted on top of.
And, thankfully for the community, this is a ridiculously comprehensive product: it’s 8 (EIGHT!!!) DVDs long and comes with a bonus CD and a full workbook to use in conjunction with the DVDs.
Physical Confidence covers everything from very elementary things (the traditional “pick up artist stance”, how to sit, rolling your shoulders, etc.) to very advanced, subtle, and nuanced things (”the multiple vectors of physical space”, how to maintain the attention of a set/individual when not speaking to them directly, how to use fingers instead of the back of your hand when touching to avoid awkwardness, etc.)
There are so many highlights from Physical Confidence that it’s difficult to single any out. Lance’s demonstration of how emotional space works is worth the price of the DVD alone. He shows how the emotional distance between two people is not only dependent on how far apart you are and what your shoulder/hip angle is, but many other factors as well: whether you’re looking at a person, etc. He gives clear demonstrations of the variables in this — which is SO much better than reading hard-and-fast rules on a message board, because it allows you to understand the underlying dynamics of emotional distance and thus easily adapt accordingly in set. After watching this segment, I immediately started to move and position myself better in set. It was literally instant progress through understanding.
Lance goes over crucial things like exactly how and when to touch guys when you’re in mixed sets, several techniques for touching women in a way that’s comfortable and flirty without being creepy (techniques like the hockey check), the nuances of what makes touching comfortable/uncomfortable for women, how to escalate the touching in a playful way, how to push/pull physically in an advanced manner, and the age old question for men: what exactly to do with your hands when you’re standing.
I think there are several ways in which PickUp101 distinguishes themselves in this DVD:
1. Lance has one foot in the PUA community, but he also maintains a larger perspective. He answers questions like “When your wing approaches, should you look at him or look at the set?” with a mix of expertise and disdain for jargon. Of all the teachers working today, Lance seems to best balance community knowledge with the ability to stand back and recognize when keyboard jockeys are too absorbed in theory. One of Lance’s main points is that in order to interact with women successfully, you have to be IN THE MOMENT. You can’t be overthinking strategically according to some pre-defined rule set — you have to flow naturally.
2. PU101 teaches that your physiology DETERMINES your emotional state. Lance points out that if you genuinely smile for 15 seconds, your body will automatically put your emotional state in a happier, more relaxed place.
3. PU101 gives specific exercises to work on for your physical confidence — they use a deck of cards and a game with women giving pre-determined reactions to build your eye for what happens in set.
4. They throw strict rules out the window and show you HOW TO READ YOUR OWN BODY so that you can know when to break the traditional rules of physical.
5. PU101 seems to focus on real transformation that you can sustain and be successful with, rather than tricks which are dependent on situations and your mood.
6. Lance, in one of the most interesting segments, talks about the role of vulnerability in your physical confidence. This also would have been worth the price of the DVD for me.
What I found to be the weaker parts of the series (and there HAS to be some in an 8 DVD set) were some of the demonstrations of facial expressions. The “three ways to enter a room” part was awesome, but the facial expressions didn’t translate as well to video as I’m sure they did to those who were in the room for that seminar. There were a couple shots of Lance demonstrating the “relaxed jaw” which, while useful, were a little weird. One of the hidden highlights, perhaps, was getting to see more of PU101 instructor Daniel, who several people have commented to me is far too uncelebrated. Daniel has a very congruent, relaxed-yet-energetic, humble approach that really blends advanced strategy with what has become a natural charisma for him. He’s underrated.
One of the worst things about so many products in the community is that you never feel like you have a handle on things because there are always questions left. The best thing about Physical Confidence is that once you buy this DVD set, you will KNOW PHYSICAL CONFIDENCE COLD. It’s comprehensive, it leaves no questions unasked, it demonstrates everything that it’s saying, and it is probably the only product you would ever need to buy in this area. PickUp101 once again delivers some quality product.
