What is the Seduction Community?
The seduction community is like a huge fraternity for men, mostly based online, who all have the goal of making themselves more successful with women and dating. The seduction community has steered also into other aspects of self-improvement in a man’s life, like fitness, knowledge, and a greater understanding of life and what it can offer.
Officially, the seduction community is made up of hundreds of “lairs” spread out through major cities throughout the world, but is mostly communicated with online in forums and blogs.
The seduction community has been receiving more and more media exposure within the last two years, with such publications as “The Game”, by popular rock biographer Neil Strauss, and guest appearances of “the worlds greatest pickup artist” Mystery on Conan O’Brien.
Brief History of the Seduction Community
The seduction community’s origins date back to Eric Weber’s book How to Pick Up Girls. In the 1980’s, Ross Jeffries, promoted a collection of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques called “Speed Seduction” (SS). In 1994, Lewis De Payne, then a student of Jeffries and an associate of Kevin Mitnick, founded the newsgroup alt.seduction.fast (“ASF”). This then spawned a network of other Internet discussion forums, email lists, blogs, and sites where seduction techniques could be exchanged. As the original alt.seduction.fast became overwhelmed with spam, a group developed a moderated alternative known as “Moderated ASF” (commonly “mASF”), which reports a membership of 20,000. (In this authors opinion, has become just as useless)
Other seduction teachers emerged with competing methods. These theories were collected on the usenet newsgroups before being systematically taught by teachers. Two of the most notable of these new teachers were Mystery and David DeAngelo. Mystery is a magician who applied many of the social skills used in stage performance to the art of seduction, creating the Mystery Method. On 2007-08-02 Mystery with 2 former students (Matador and J-Dog) started his own show “The Pick Up Artist” on VH1. Many of the terms used by the community like “set” and “routine” are taken from the performing arts. David DeAngelo, a former student of Ross Jeffries, is best known for a technique called ‘Cocky and Funny’. These, and other teachers, are often referred to as “seduction gurus” or “gurus”. Other notable “seduction gurus” go by names such as Juggler (Wayne Elise), Badboy, Shark, PlayboyLA (Stephen Nash), Tyler Durden, Carlos Xuma, Swinggcat, Steve Piccus, Sinn, Savoy, Hypnotica (Von Sydow, Eric), and Zan Perrion, many of which you can read about in Neil Strauss’ The Game.
The seduction community is now flooded with “experts” all claiming a quick fix to your dating worries. The fact is, that these techniques can take years to perfect, but you can start seeing improvements in your game immediately. Common Techniques of the Seduction Community
There are many concepts and techniques which vary from expert to expert. One of the concepts that is widely considered “fundamental” is not buying women drinks, gifts, flowers, and otherwise showing “neediness” to win her affection. The seduction community also believes that physical looks are no more important than money, or fame. The most important aspect of an aspiring pickup artist is a charismatic personality and knowledge of social dynamics. There is also a feeling of responsibility for all your actions, and happiness.
Most members of the seduction community work on their “game” (seduction skills) by improving their confidence and self-esteem (inner game), their social skills and understanding of female psychology (outer game) and their physical appearance (physical fitness, fashion sense, grooming). A man’s “game” is refined through regular practice of techniques, with the belief that his abilities needed to interact with women can be learned.
There are usually two schools of thought that an aspiring pickup artist can follow. The first is a routine-based method, usually containing pre-rehearsed lines, games, and other techniques that can be learned quickly. The second is a natural-based method, usually obtained by improving your inner game and improvising conversations, but with some basic guidelines to follow. Each man is different and both methods work and should be considered separably or mix the two techniques until you find a blend that brings the results you want.
