Set Your Intent

Let’s talk a little bit about setting an intent. I’m going to share a story with you, one that is very personal to me.

The other night I was kind of just sitting around, and I started reminiscing a little bit. Then I started thinking to myself, “God, it’s amazing.” I read all your posts on the blog and on YouTube. I see all of you struggling so much either trying to meet someone, to work on aspects of your relationship or to work on aspects of yourself. What I realized was that I think a lot of you are missing the point.

Here’s the story I want to share with you. When I was nineteen years old, I was really skinny. I know I’m not exactly the bulkiest guy in the world right now. At nineteen, though, I was really thin. I was a ‘tall drink of water’ — tall, lean and thin.

Then I saw the movie Flashdance. As most of you know, Flashdance was a hot, sexy dance movie. After seeing it I thought to myself, “I really want to be in that type of shape where I can just rock it at all times.”

The minute the movie ended, I went into the basement of the house I was renting in college and I started working out. I haven’t stopped since that day.

I have been working out since I was nineteen, and I’m now 47 years old. I’ve been working out consistently for 28 years.

When I was in my 20s, I was a big guy. I was bulky, big around the neck, and had big arms and shoulders. Now, at 47 years old, I’m more lean again.

The one thing that will never change about me is being in shape. I will always be in shape.

Why? Because I work at it every day. Every single day I do something.

last night a took a long walk on the beach after we had dinner. The day before that I did weights. Tomorrow I’m probably going to go for a bike ride. The day after that I’m probably going to go do some more weights, maybe do a little bit of stretching and Pilates.

No matter what it is, every day I’m doing something. It might be for half an hour, 45 minutes or an hour. It doesn’t matter. The reason why I do it every day is because I believe there is no reason for me not to look good, and not to feel good about who I am and what I’m all about.

Why should I look flabby? Why should my woman look at me and think to herself, “God he looked so much better six months ago. Why doesn’t he look that good now?”

That’s the message I want to get through to all of you. The message is that if you want to achieve goals, you’ve got to painfully do something every day.

Do I enjoy working out? Some days I hate it. Do I enjoy taking a long walk? Sometimes I love it, but other times I just don’t want to do it.

I do it not only to look good, but also because it makes me feel good. I like to feel tight. I like to feel ripped. I like to feel my body.

I don’t like to feel flabby in any way. I wouldn’t want to see myself with a big belly.

Is this all ego? There’s probably a little bit of ego involved, but a big part of it is the way it makes me feel. I feel great.

All of you need to realize that in order for you to get good at something, you’ve got to do the work. You’ve got to drag your ass out there every single day. You’ve got to drag yourself out there even on days you don’t want to drag yourself out there.

You have no choice but to drag yourself out there and get things done. If you want to become good at something, then you’ve got to do it every single day (including on days you don’t want to do it).

So even when it’s cold or raining, you’ve got to get to the gym or get out there and meet people or do whatever it is that you have set as a goal for yourself. If you want to become a good conversationalist, for example, you’ve got to talk to everybody . . . and you’ve got to do it every day.

So many of you will get so frustrated — so painfully frustrated — while you’re working on a goal. It will drive you up the wall. It will drive you crazy. You’ll get so frustrated, it’s ridiculous.

You’ve got to work through those frustrations. I was so proud when I had that realization the other day that for the last 27 years I’ve worked through my frustrations and therefore can look in the mirror today knowing I’m in as good shape now as i was in at age nineteen.

Do you know how that makes me feel? I’ve got a herniated disc. You would never know it by looking at me . . . ever. I move well. I’m strong. That makes me feel great!

I’ve got a blown shoulder. I can move through that pain, and I’m strong as can be.

How about getting blown off by a woman once in a while. That is a frustration that I know many of you face. All of you can blow right through all that stuff. I know you can. I know every one of you can.

You’ve just got to persevere. You’ve just got to drag yourself out there every day and work on the things you need to work on. You can do it. I know you can do it.

Unbreakable Is Released

What Story Do You Hide Behind?

Today’s podcast is going to be really interesting, but also really short, because I want to be sure to get this message across to you guys. I’m not going to tell you exactly what it is here cause I want to be sure you will listen to it.

Before I go into today’s blog, though, a little update for you. Within the last week I went to get a second opinion about my back, and based upon that I am not going to have surgery.

According to this doctor, who is one of the top doctors in Los Angeles, my body can heal itself. Apparently what I have is really not that serious. The doctor says that the herniated disc and the fragments that are attached to it can heal themselves.

Our bodies can work miraculous recoveries. The doctor actually told me that I am crazy to undergo surgery when I can heal without it. So, now I am in the process of healing myself.

It’s interesting how we really have the power to do anything. I truly believe that. You have the power to heal yourself. You have the power to cure yourself of anything.

A lot of you suffer from approach anxiety. A lot of you suffer from fear of intimacy. The reason you suffer from these things are the stories that you’ve created behind them.

A lot of us create stories. Now, I’m not talking about telling a great story. I’m talking about the stories you create about things that happen (or don’t happen), and the fears and emotions you attach to events.

Let me give you an example. Say you’re fooling around with someone, and they say “Not tonight” when you invite them to stay the night. Immediately you think to yourself, “You know, every single time this happens. Women just aren’t attracted to me. I don’t know what it is. I must not be a good lover.”

That dialog in your head is the story you’re creating. You’re creating that story instead of listening in the moment. Stories are created when you don’t listen to what’s actually going on in the moment.

Here is another good example. Say you ask a woman out and she says, “I’ve got a boyfriend.” So many guys will immediately create an entire story about that when this happens. They think, “Why does this always happen to me? What am I doing wrong?”

These are the stories we create, and those stories are the way that we validate how we are. In reality, though, those stories are nothing more than your fears and excuses.

You go out to bars and every night you come home and think, “You know, the same thing happens every time. I always go up to a woman at the end of the night and she doesn’t seem interested. Women just aren’t attracted to me.”

The truth is that all of that is just the story you’ve created. The real reason women aren’t attracted to you in the bar is because you stare at them all night long, and then by the time you walk over to them they don’t respond well to you because you’ve given you the creepy “stalker guy” vibe.

So really, what are your stories? Behind what do you hide? You need to become conscious of what your stories are, so that you’ll realize that those stories are just fears and excuses. If you would just really listen to people, you wouldn’t need to create all these stories.

Have you ever listened to someone, actually head what they were saying and didn’t create a story based upon it? A woman at the end of a first date says “God, I had such a great time! Can’t wait to see you again.”

So instead of listening to what that woman says, you create a story and you think, “I wonder if she actually means it. I’ve heard women say that before and things didn’t work out.” Based on that you then wait five days or a week to call her.

That’s what we do. We create stories. You do it, and I do it.

Someone doesn’t call you back, and immediately you create a whole story based upon it. You think, “Barry is ignoring my calls. Why is he ignoring my calls. Why is he ignoring my texts?” The reality may be that the person is not doing that at all. The reality may be that they just put their phone down, or left it somewhere, or that they were having dinner with a friend.

We all do this, but this is not what life is all about. Life is about getting out of your head and stopping yourself from creating stories that aren’t true. When you create stories that aren’t true, they based on paranoid fears from past programming.

You need to start recognizing this behavior. When you start creating a story in your head, you need to realize from where that story is coming and then be able to separate what is truth from what is just a story.

Two Alpha Rules You Must Learn

I’m going to assume that if you’re reading this, you’ve used a computer before.

And I’ll bet you’re a lot like me – you probably think typing is a huge pain in the butt.

Do you know how the keys got laid out in the configuration you’ve got on your computer’s keyboard?

Back in the early 1900s, women everywhere were learning this new skill of being a typist on the old fashioned typewriters. But one thing that kept happening that they didn’t foresee was that the women became extremely FAST typists.

Hey, when that’s all you’ve got to do all day long, you can’t help but get good.

The problem was that these women were SO fast that they were jamming up the typewriters. The mechanical parts simply could not work as fast as they did.

So what did they do? Did they improve the design of typewriters?

No.

The typewriter manufacturers hired someone to come up with a layout for the keyboard that would SLOW the women down so they wouldn’t jam them up anymore. (True story.)

Pretty ridiculous, isn’t it?

Remember that story, because I’m going to come back to it.

Here’s another story that should hit home for you…

Did you ever hear that saying that a man should spend 2 months salary on his wife’s diamond ring?

Did you know that before the 1940s, women didn’t get diamonds on their wedding rings? They would just get a wedding band of some kind.

It wasn’t until the diamond company De Beers started paying film studios to feature scenes with women wearing diamond wedding rings that this new belief took hold.

They manufactured this new rule out of THIN AIR.

De Beers actually manipulated culture for the last 70 years so that men now feel like they have to adorn their women with a trophy diamond that shows her how much he “loves” her.

Sorry, I’m a romantic at heart, but a cynic when it comes to the whole “buy a woman’s love” stuff…

In my opinion, if you’re spending more time and energy just satisfying your wife-to-be’s desire to “keep up” with other women, then you might want to put a reality check on your relationship.

After all, the most expensive diamond can still be worn as she’s driving away with half your stuff. It’s no guarantee.

Anyway, I tell you these stories for a purpose…

I’m going to teach you 2 PRICELESS Alpha Rules.

You’ve probably already figured them both out by now, but here’s what we can learn:

The first is the Rule of the Tied Elephant…

When an elephant is very young, it’s tied up using a fairly thin piece of rope. The baby elephant can’t break it, so it becomes used to staying where it is tied.

When that same elephant is full-grown, it’s able to break that rope with little or no effort. But it never does, because it grew up thinking that the thin rope was too strong for it.

(Just like typists today are limited by the awkward layout of the keyboard).

Unfortunately, this is also how most guys learn their attraction and seduction skills. We’re limited to using the same “thin rope” techniques that really are inadequate.

But it’s what we were all taught…

Buy her flowers & cards.

Flatter her…

In today’s world, it’s not “politically correct” to show men the same strategies women use on us all the time. If we use them, we’re not being “genuine.”

I’m here to show you how to break that thin rope and let your real power out…

I want to show you how to “reconfigure your keyboard” so that you can whiz past every guy out there.

The second rule is the Rule of the Unchallenged Belief.

Until I told you about that “2 month” rule for buying an engagement ring, I bet you thought that was something guys have done all through history. That there was this ancient tradition of giving women precious stones.

Hey, *I* didn’t even know about it until a couple years ago.

And yet we never even questioned it. We might have thought it was a B.S. excuse to impress a woman, but we didn’t question it… because that’s what EVERYONE ELSE is doing.

How many other beliefs are we holding that limit us?

How many other beliefs do we have that go unchallenged?

When it comes to women, there are many that we need to question.

There are many we need to break apart.

And there are many we need to throw away.

Here’s a very short exercise that will reap you unbelievable dividends in your Alpha Man Attitude.

Take 2 minutes to write down all the things you “believe” about women.

Here are a few examples:

- Women want men with power and money.

- Women are completely emotional and irrational.

- Women don’t like it when men show their interest in them quickly.

I bet you’ve got a ton of them. I know I do.

Just write them all down, and take a minute to look at them in the cold, hard light of reality. Ask yourself if each of those beliefs is helping you or hurting you.

And then decide how you want to deal with it.

The reality is that most of the things we believe about women – and the things we believe that women believe – are simplyNOT true.

OR they don’t matter when you’re behaving like the Alpha of the pack.

The fact is that reality distorts around any sufficiently strong belief system. The only thing you have to do is make yours stronger than hers.

This requires iron-clad inner game.

The fact is that increasing your confidence with women will help you attract women faster and more consistently than any “pickup line” or seduction technique you can learn.

So why don’t more guys work on their “inner” game of confidence?

Honestly, because they think it takes a lot of work.

But it doesn’t.

The Secret Guide to Valentine’s Day

If you’ve been dating someone but she’s not your girlfriend or close to it…

* Yes, this sucks. No, it doesn’t mean she’s a bitch. People want what they can’t have, and women and relationships are no exception. On the other hand, if she’s into you and you don’t offer to make plans… you may be discarded for someone who does. Sorry. This can be a no-win situation. I didn’t make the world; I just live in it.

* The best bet here is to go out with a mixed group (either a group of singles, or include some couples once they’ve done the private Valentine’s Day stuff together) and invite her to come along. Keep it nice and ambiguous.

If she is your girlfriend…

* There’s no way around this. Make the day special for her. Do the traditional date and do it right.

* Send her flowers, and send them somewhere she can show them off to her friends. Valentine’s Day for women is in part a “who has the best boyfriend” competition. So send flowers to her work if that’s appropriate, or to her apartment if she has a few roommates.

* Don’t just send roses. Be creative. But make it nice.

* Do the traditional Valentine’s date, complete with the nice dinner, dressing up, romantic vibe, etc. Take any concerns about “supplicating” and throw them in the $(*@ing garbage. It’s Valentine’s Day, she’s your girlfriend, so man up and be a good boyfriend.

If you have multiple girlfriends or long-term relationships (in your city)…

* Get out of town. I’m serious. Most beautiful women will not accept seeing a man once a week or more, sleeping with him, and not getting to spend Valentine’s Day with him if he’s in town.

* Make it a business trip, a family emergency, etc. Whatever it is, leave before Friday and don’t come back on Sunday. That’s too obvious. Disappear for at least a couple of days.

* Send flowers to all of them and call all of them. You’ll probably have make-up dates to do when you get back, but at least they’re not all colliding on the same day.

In sum, if you’re single or casually dating, Valentine’s Day is a giant, societally-imposed artificial state break in the normal evolution of a relationship. It is not your friend. Try to make the best of it. On the plus side, if you are single, women are incredibly easy to meet.

Own Your Words

Client: I’ve seen so many people try to be like that totally enthusiastic guy – but it comes off contrived. The stuff I’ve seen with you has been much more natural, but there seems to be a fine line between the two. How do you make sure you’re falling on the right side of that line? How do you make sure that you’re not overdoing it?

David: It is natural for people to be enthusiastic. If you’re really listening to someone interesting, you’re going to be enthusiastic. If someone is really boring you, of course, you’re not going to be.

But if someone looks at you and says, “Oh, this is a beautiful day,” in a very monotone voice and you respond, “It certainly is!!!!” then you’re just like Ty Pennington – you’re ready to go out there and build them a house.

That’s over-the-top and it’s not natural. It’s not real. It isn’t a real emotion.

Some people are just boring. Some people really seem like they don’t have a pulse – and you don’t want to be around them anyway.
In terms of this over-the-top enthusiasm, you have you realize that you’re not a camp counselor – you’re not here to motivate the world.

It is the tonality of your voice and the things that you do. For instance, Rey and I will role-play for you. Rey, tell me that’s your favorite liquor store over there.

Rey: Okay, that’s my favorite liquor store.

David: Why? Why is that your favorite liquor store? What’s so great about Jay’s Liquor?

Rey: Well, they don’t check your ID. So you can get booze there when you’re underage.

David: That’s so funny – so you’re like this underage guy that is scouting out all of these liquor stores!

Rey: Yeah.

David: So are there any other liquor stores that are your favorite? Any others where you can go scam a bottle of booze? And are you like an alcoholic or what?

Rey: There are a lot of liquor stores run by Koreans, and since I look Asian they never card me. Sometimes they even give me a discount!

David: Okay. So do you see what happens? I was mimicking his voice patterns. That’s what enthusiasm is: voice tone. It’s the tonality we have when we talk to each other.

When you have a tonality and listen very carefully to the way that people are talking, you realize that it’s all mimicking. It’s all mirroring.

A lot of guys are always worried about body language. I tell them not to worry about her body language – if your body language is strong enough she’ll just automatically follow you.

It’s the same thing with voice patterns and tonality. If someone comes at you with enthusiasm in his or her voice, you have to match it.

People are attracted to themselves. If you think about it, we’re all very attracted to ourselves. We’re also attracted to people who are more powerful and stronger than we are. We’re not attracted to the weaker people.

So in this situation, you really start to attract yourself. It all comes down to the same thing I was talking about earlier – when you go up there and are feeling insecure, then the only women who are going to want to be with you are the insecure ones.

This is where the Law of Attraction comes in. You begin to meet people that you actually fit with.

This is how your enthusiasm is authentic. Be interested in someone. I’m really interested when someone says something to me, so I’m naturally enthusiastic.

Like this: “Hey Rey, how was your break with your mom, did everything work out well?”

Rey: Yeah, it was great. My mom and I were always arguing but it got a lot better. Now we’re a lot closer. Of course, your mother will always annoy you! But she’s also your mom, and you’ll always love her!

David: Well let me ask you a question: the arguments that you had with your mom, were they really beneficial? Did the arguments work to get you and your mom closer? Do you feel like you were arguing to get somewhere instead of just arguing like you normally do?

Rey: I think it was like half and half. Sometimes you argue with people just because you want to be pissed off at someone. But in the end, it’s helping you get closer to the other person…

David: Okay, so do you see where the questions come in? I really wanted to know about his arguments with his mother. Be very curious. I know Khiem talked a lot about that yesterday. Be very curious about somebody, and have that voice and that tonality.

The strength in my voice allowed the conversation to move forward. This is something that women are really attracted to – that tonality. I was leading that conversation. And what I said didn’t even really matter – I kind of babbled a little bit, I might have repeated myself, but I still kept that same strong tone.

Client: Yeah, when you were asking about the nature of the arguments he had with his mom, you weren’t really sure where you were going with it, but it just ended up flowing.

David: Yeah, it’s a strong tone. I own my words, and I’m not afraid of them. You can’t be afraid of your words. You can’t say anything tentatively. Saying things with hesitation is demonstrating your insecurity. If you show her that insecurity, of course she’s not going to want to talk to you. You’re giving away your power to her, and she’s not going to be attracted to a weak guy.

So it’s important to lead that conversation. I always tell guys that it’s not WHAT you say; it’s HOW you say it. There is a different way to say things.

It’s really important to have that strong voice, tonality, and enthusiasm behind your words. It’s all about owning your words.

Don’t Be Alone This New Years Eve by Savoy

Don’t be alone on New Year’s Eve. First, you’re passing up a great opportunity. And second, it doesn’t really set the tone for a good 2009, does it?

Fortunately, all the odds are in your favor. Print out this guide to plan your night and take advantage of what nature is giving you.

What’s really going on with New Year’s Eve?

* People are festive and happy.
* They don’t have to work the next day.
* They want to feel close to each other.
* No one wants to be alone.
* Barriers are down.
* Alcohol is flowing.
* It’s more socially acceptable to hook up.

(The last of these is an example of when the magic phrase “it doesn’t count” comes into play. So, that’s all good. Now here’s what to expect:

New Year’s Eve at Clubs

If you’re going to a club, it’s going to be more intense than usual. You have to be high-energy and be the life of the party. This doesn’t mean being drunk and obnoxious (though I almost certainly will be, but that’s because my name is Savoy and I’m an alcoholic). It does mean giving off a powerful, upbeat social energy.

This is otherwise known as “being in state.” There are a bunch of great tactics we’ve discovered that let you feel at the top of your game every night you go out. Discovering these helped turn my game from hot-and-cold to hot-and-hotter.

One thing I see guys messing up all the time is when they get to a club or party and then do a reconnaissance mission around the place – to see where all the cute girls are, for future reference I suppose, or more probably as a tactic to avoid having to approach right away.

Don’t do this. Approach as soon as you arrive. I don’t care if you’re sexually attracted to the first woman you approach; I don’t even care if you approach women. Just establish the momentum that comes from arriving somewhere and instantly being part of the social scene there.

Also, at clubs, you’ll see a lot more women who don’t normally go to clubs, but who will make a few exceptions every year with New Year’s being one of them. Most of these women will be in large groups and many of them will be dancing. So, be aware that there will be beautiful women on New Year’s Eve who don’t always act like you may be used to beautiful women acting at clubs… they may be a little friendlier and more down to earth.

So, if you’re used to using a lot of hard-core teasing and disqualification, make sure you’re watching her reactions and pick up on signals when it’s time to tone it down.

New Year’s Eve at House Parties

House parties are like extended social circles. You’re all at the same party because you’re all no more than a degree or two of separation from anyone else.

Mr. M and Braddock are the experts on Social Circle Mastery – even running a wildly popular one day seminar focused specifically on this – so I’ll quote them when they warn:

“Don’t treat your social circle like a nightclub.”

For example, you can generally use a lower risk-reward opener at a house party. People are expected to talk to each other, even if they are strangers. In practice, most people at private parties will have some connection to each other anyway, such as having mutual friends or a mutual connection to the host.

In other words, you don’t need higher-risk openers to cut through the social barriers that you might find yourself faced with at clubs. Even “Hi, I’m Joe” or a functional or situational opener will usually be fine at a house party, whereas an elaborate opinion opener might seem weird. It will definitely seem weird if by using it you come across oddly, especially if you use it more than once at the same event.

While I normally advocate taking risks, you want to be a little more strategic in a party setting. If your warm-up approaches misfire, it’s normally not a big deal. Find another part of the club, and, with luck, no one will have seen your first approaches. Even if you bomb an entire club, there are more clubs. You’ll never see these people again.

At a small- or medium-sized party, if you fail on the approach or seem awkward, you can assume that everyone will see it. No girl wants to be with the “creepy guy who was hitting on everyone” or the “weird guy with all those pickup lines.” Even if she didn’t notice and she likes you, you can count on her friends “rescuing” her from you later.

But – anyway – you shouldn’t be getting blown out when you approach. Are you?

If so, let’s fix this.

The same factors that hurt you if you’re treating your house party like a nightclub can help you if you play it right. You don’t have to approach most women “cold” – you’ll know someone who knows her, so you can easily be introduced or “just happen” to meet her when your friend is nearby. It will feel much less like a pickup to her.

Here’s another one. Say you meet someone early in the night and have some chemistry with her. Later, you can ask a mutual friend about her.

* DON’T say something like: “I really like Sarah.”

* DO use the opportunity to qualify her through a mutual friend. For example: “Sarah seems cool; where do you know her from?” Your friend will understand the sub-communication, which is “Sarah made a good first impression on me, and I’m a little curious about her.”

Done properly, your friend might even do a lot of the hard work on your behalf.

Your logistics at a New Year’s Eve party are also different. You’re probably not going to leave the party to go somewhere else, at least not before midnight, so think of places at the party where you might be able to get to know her better.

If you’re offered a tour, take it. Know this stuff in advance.

I once lost a foursome (with three women) because I didn’t do this on New Year’s Eve at a friend’s party in New York. I had three women in tow, and all we were looking for was an empty bedroom. Feeling the energy dissipate while we wandered around the party, I finally found a room that seemed empty – until a knock on the door 10 minutes later from the owner of the room and his “date.” By then, I couldn’t get all three up for the idea of continuing to look around (especially since we’d been “caught”) – but with a little planning and foresight, I would have known there was a comfortable furnished basement open.

The Principles of Dating by Savoy

Whether you’re looking for sex or romance (or both), dates are often going to be part of the process. We all have horrible date stories, but with a little bit of Love Systems strategy, you can improve your odds dramatically. The following are the first five of my 10 Principles of Dating, designed to help you accomplish all of your goals on a date.

(1) Planning

Never ask a woman what she wants to do on a date. Have everything planned and prepared for the night, including a backup plan in case she’s late or in a traffic jam. Being taken out is highly attractive to a woman, so make sure you take control of the situation and surprise her with your ownership of the date. It’s also a good idea to have her come to your place to start the date (credit David D). By doing this, you’ve assured that the date also has to end at your place – after all, she needs to get her car to go home. This is a great way to increase your odds of getting intimate at the end.

(2) Different

Don’t be another addition to her list of typical dates. Plan something different, including things like concerts, amusement parks, or art galleries. Most inept guys have probably taken her to dinner, drinks, or the movies in an attempt to impress her. Since you’re NOT trying to fail, separate yourself from the pack and be adventurous. Also, please don’t wait until the end of the night for a kiss; this is typical, often awkward, and pretty much assures that at best a kiss is ALL you’ll get. Move in for the makeout as soon as you hit an emotional high point with her – save the end of the night “will we or won’t we” feeling for whether you’ll have sex, not whether you’ll get a kiss.

(3) External Simulation

Take her somewhere that doesn’t force your conversation to be the only source of entertainment. Dinner or a coffee shop can be especially intense this way. Better dates give more opportunities for external stimulation – anything from wine tasting to something outdoorsy.

(4) Interaction

Even though a stimulating environment is recommended for a date, don’t go to the other extreme where external stimulation blocks out the chance for you to interact with each other. This is another reason why movies are a bad idea

(5) Excitement

Plan dates designed to take her through a range of sensations or emotions. At a comedy club, she can be laughing, scandalized, or amused. At an art gallery, she could be visually stimulated or even offended – you’ll get to know what she responds to a lot better in these kinds of environments.

Many of the material featured on the DVD is ELSEWHERE in the community, but with different gurus past and present, and is shown VISUALLY. This is the exciting part. Although it is filmed by actors, you can get a feel and calibration for the techniques better than just watching or attending a seminar.
