First order of business would be coming up with his own material. Someone might notice a very highlighted copy of “The New Earth” peeking out of his back pocket….

gigi August 24, 2008 at 7:13 am

not much has NOT been said in the self help field by now, and judging by the Blueprint being an almost complete rehash of self help books that i personally read and that were published in the 1990′s, tyler will need to become way more original in order to succeed there.

it is different than the seduction community crowd that is relatively easy to hook because the community is rather new and as such a lot of the audience is unusually fanatic.

as for apparent personal charm (tony robbins’ secret), tyler doesn’t have that at all, he appears extremely crude on stage no matter how wise his words may be. he will have a lot of work to do.

i wish him good luck anyway, i believe he does have good intentions.

tyler is making a brilliant business decision moving away from rsd when it’s at its apparent peak. there’s no one there innovative enough to keep the boat afloat, give it less than 2 years and they’re gone.

with no main guru dominating the market, now this is the best time for new pickup companies to emerge. people are disillusioned with mystery (or its clones), and tyler is voluntarily stepping aside. the rest are relatively small timers.

if you ever considered ‘going commercial PUA’ – now is the time start thinking about it seriously. the timing is as good as it will ever be. if you’re already in the market – time to step on the gas. the new leading guru could be you all the same.

LoveSystems is still at the top, Venusian Arts is going to get a lot of exposure with the 2nd season of “The Pickup Artist”, Mehow is providing a lit of new ideas… so there is a few guys dominating the market. And there’s Jlaix and Tim at RSD, I think they can hold it for more than 2 years.

TightGame August 24, 2008 at 2:56 pm

This is a great career move for Tyler, because I think he is one of the best public/motivational speakers in the PUA business.

The way the industry is evolving, however, being a top-tier social coach involves more than just public speaking. Social coaches need to be doing things that Tyler doesn’t do.

Mehow and others have raised the bar in the last year with hidden mic and infield video product, where coaches can demonstrate social energy. Also, the community interview podcast circuit is a must so that students can get a sense of the coach’s social personality. Tyler doesn’t do interviews or any type of community interaction unless he is in absolute control of the interaction (i.e; hotel room seminar speeches).

In the roughly 30 hours of DVD footage of Tyler across RSD’s product line, you never see Tyler interacting with women! There is some good inner game stuff and motivational energy in these products, but the products give you absolutely no first-hand sense of what his vibe is around women. In RSD’s defense, however, their most recent release “Flawless Natural” has some footage of Tim in the field. There is no question in my mind that Tim is a top-tier social coach.

In summary, good luck to Tyler. He is a charismatic speaker, and motivational speeches is his strong suit.

gigi August 24, 2008 at 3:04 pm

TightGame – this is what happened with Pickup 101 – once they released an infield product they lost a lot of fans, because their social vibe was extremely awkward there. Same why Alex’s infield video didn’t do any service to RSD. You got a good point there. I saw Tim on his blog and yes he looks like a cool guy, although it takes a lot more than being ‘cool’ to keep a pickup school like RSD in its current position in the industry.

LMAO@PUAs August 24, 2008 at 4:02 pm

So an edited DVD with PUAs talking with women tips the scales as whether they are successful?

You are easily impressed. Get out from behind the computer and see that even you can do it! Really!

gigi August 24, 2008 at 5:00 pm

it can tip the scale as to whether they are successful selling themselves to men.

Cedric August 25, 2008 at 12:03 am

LMAO@PUAs > If you believe before you see, it’s not pickup, it’s religion. Are you shocked that people want to see the goods?

Well, we saw it with Alex, and only RSD’s fanatics were impressed…

nate August 25, 2008 at 1:01 am

RSD fanatics were not impressed, they were experiencing a cognitive dissonance. They couldn’t believe how lame Alex is and they couldn’t believe that this is their idol, so they tried to find meaning where there isn’t any, so to try to explain away the fact that they look up to that guy.

Cedric August 25, 2008 at 5:04 am

nate > Indeed, it’s probably what happened :)

Lance Armstrong August 25, 2008 at 5:15 am

Who cares.

CTD August 25, 2008 at 9:00 am

Sinn will lead us all, after all he talks trash and reviews other peoples products, he will also teach you to sleep with fatties, For some reason, it seems we are going backwards..de evolving or something :) ) LOL

Johnson August 25, 2008 at 11:31 am

Its pretty easy to make Donovan like you, you just have to communicate with him.

It obvious Tyler doesn’t.

But it is also obvious Donovon doesnt know their material well.

That guy in terms of speaking is among the better self help speakers out there.

But like a lot of the more popular self help gurus, he better be prepared to take more shit from stalkers than he has now. He at least has quite a it of practice now. He just ignores them though, quite boring from a drama perspective haha

Donovan August 25, 2008 at 12:11 pm

Thanks Johnson. Kind words mate.

Brad August 25, 2008 at 2:51 pm

I don’t want to say that material is irrelevant… but teaching style and engagement mean more…

I don’t really follow his stuff… but I do hear of people talking about repackaging, and I don’t think it matters, because at the end of the day, all that keeps us in business is if someone votes with their checkbook.

There’s very rarely any truly original content out there (someone has said it before)… but the person that can move people to take action is the one that wins.

(Think college… same material… some teachers suck… some are okay… and some are superstars)

Bobby Rio August 25, 2008 at 7:40 pm

Great point Brad.

Tony Robbins’s content isn’t revolutionary… but the man is as successful as he is because of his ability to transform lives. If he didn’t he would have fizzled out long ago.

I don’t know what Owen’s plans are… but as with everyone… i wish him the best of luck!

gigi August 26, 2008 at 2:18 am

Tony Robbins was revolutionary when he started. now that his concepts are so well known he is considered ‘old stuff’, but in fact he is the one that came out with it in the first place many times.

However, his success is definitely more about his captivating appearance, the way he conveys himself, then his words.

The secrets of life are basic and are older than the bible. And they hardly change. They’re easy to understand but hard to implement.

‘Gurus’ play with this concept and confuse the two (understanding vs implementing) so to make money selling information.

Anyway coming up with something considered ‘highly original’ is probably selling bullshit, since the real stuff all been said and done a million times. It’s just up to you to rediscover it for yourself so it will sink in.

Tyler knows that and every self help gurus knows it. That’s why the art of self help is the art of selling the obvious in a way that it looks original. Can be also called the art of bullshitting people.

Lance August 26, 2008 at 5:13 pm

I think TD’s real strength is in is writing and I’d love to see him at least write a solid book on self-help. Some of his blog posts are brilliant, even if they’re not based on totally original material. I watched him speak on the Foundations video and in some of the Blueprint trailers and I was turned off by his speaking…I didn’t think he projected himself well over video and I didn’t find him particularly articulate (Tim & Jeff were much more effective).

Still, he’s been around since the beginning, he’s well read, and he’s got serious motivation. I want to see him succeed and see what he can add to the self-help industry.

blake September 7, 2008 at 7:42 am

Mehow is a rip-off. Horrid customer service. I canceled my subscription to their infield insider and was charged for an extra month without getting product. Four months later, I still haven’t received the refund.

Tristan January 8, 2009 at 2:38 pm

true Tyler Durden accesses a lot of his material from other sources than his own original stuff and I don’t think he makes any secret of that. But he puts it together so well(as in Blueprint) and I think he is an excellent speaker. Also why trash the dude? he’s all about self-improvement and positivity. What he talks about is so applicable to any individual’s life. He connects with a lot of people and therefore is very effective in helping others grow. Especially with inner game issues. The guy has helped me so much get a handle on my issues. Thank you Tyler!!

Zoo January 10, 2009 at 3:19 am

Tyler was great and I attended one of his RSD events and wish him well. As for new kids on the block, I have heard that SuperGuy Academy is the next big thing in PUA training. Am booked on his Feb event, so be interested to compare with RSD – I will let you know.

Robert Jackson January 13, 2009 at 11:37 am

I’ve listened to all the success gurus there are. Brian Tracy is the best one by far. Tony Robbins is the weakest of them all, because all he’s ever done is be a success guru. He doesn’t offer much helpful advice. The other success gurus have a lot of life experience being successful in other businesses besides giving success advice. Brian Tracy offers the most helpful success advice. And Nathaniel Branden is the best for learning about self esteem. But Tony Robbins did the best job of marketing. He’s the only one that had infomercials.

I thought Owen’s RSD Blueprint Decoded was totally genius. I think he’ll make a great self help guru.

Mastablasta March 5, 2009 at 12:42 pm

Hey everyone keeps saying how the blueprint is a complete rehash of self help books, which books are these so I can check them out?

danny March 19, 2009 at 10:01 pm

the blueprint is the shit!! i couldnt sleep properly for a few days cuz it shook my reality so hard. Wether it was a rehash or not or partly, os irelevant cuz is about how he puts it together. Honestly, is the best inner stuff out there that i’ve come across and ive read and watched alot. go tyler

MarTy Mcfly May 19, 2009 at 4:05 pm

Last I heard, Tyler was still offering bootcamps. I’ve read the blueprint and have watched all the dvd’s alot of times. I personally gain something every time I come back to the Blueprint. He almost makes self-help cool because he talks about random topics like eating your own poo/jumping out of high rise building and ghost riding the whip. When have Tony Robbins or Wayne Dyer ever done stuff like that to help shatter the glass of social conditioning? Besides RSD is cool as shit and the instructors are obsessed with success. I doubt any other self-help/pua company offers any product/service even close to RSD.

Mark July 11, 2009 at 6:45 am

I think Tyler will do a good job. But he will have to be original!

DJ August 14, 2009 at 11:42 pm

What??? Come on dude. We need you.

Phoenix December 16, 2009 at 3:35 am

I find site to be very unashamedly biased against Real Social Dynamics no matter what the issue. It’s disturbing.

My two cents…

slim June 24, 2010 at 5:20 pm

Tyler is great in the sense he has started from a grass routes stage – early Mystery seminars and has been brave enough and humble enough to challenge himself with a big inner game orientated product in ‘the blueprint decoded.’ Out of most pua’s he has been the most dynamic and his transition into other fields honestly doesn’t surprise me as the golden rule isnt to be too niched – to be a good pua you must forget about pua. His natural progression into other related fields and his reluctance to stay in this niched market are testament to that old ethos.
