UPDATE: Savoy, The Don (The Mystery Method) and Ross Jeffries (Speed Seduction) headlined the Dr Phil show on Friday. (Read my interview with Nick about the behind the scenes on Dr Phil).
They recorded this over a year ago, and it looks like it’ll be a bias piece but interesting to watch. Check your local listings for more specific channel and time details. Here’s the description from the Dr Phil website, and you can also check out the trailer for it on that site. I’ll try and upload the video so those of you who are at work can watch it.
Women Beware!
Women beware: Men are on the prowl! Some guys win your heart and dupe you for thousands of dollars, while other men learn the slick techniques of pick-up artists so they can get you in the sack! Go inside a classroom where single men are being taught The Mystery Method — a step-by-step technique on how to meet, attract and date beautiful women. The founders say their method teaches guys to be more confident. When the students hit the bars, will The Mystery Method help them land a lady? What do the women think of their techniques?
Then, meet Ross Jeffries, the self-proclaimed “Father of Seduction.” He says he’s taught thousands of men to seduce women through language. Now he fears that he’s created monsters, because many of his followers are seducing woman through deception, and he says that’s exactly what The Mystery Method is all about.
A heated debate ensues between Ross and the creators of The Mystery Method, Nick and Scott. Is Ross’ technique actually as benign as he claims? And, Victoria says she fell in love for the first time with a guy whom who she thought was the perfect man, until he she says he ended up scamming her out of $100,000. Did Victoria miss the warning signs? How can she pick up the pieces of her broken heart and move on? If you’re a lady looking for love but don’t want to find heartache, you won’t want to miss this show!

yes i hope someone records this cause im not from the US, this seems entertaining.
Comment by Travis Bickle on 10 April 2008:
Cool.
I’d prefer if they had someone like Tyler from RSD on there just to see how he deals with it all.
God Mystery don’t go on with the goggles again!
Comment by a on 10 April 2008:
I don’t think Mystery will be on the show. Just the people who own the rights to his previous method (Mystery Method)
Neil Strauss was offered $ to be on the show a while back but declined once he realized it was geared towards “Women Beware!”
Comment by chev on 10 April 2008:
Man… I hate slanted pieces. As a fan of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts, AKA UFC), I saw countless hit-pieces in the press over the years with all kinds of bad info and straw man arguments).
Just imagine… think of all the things that you know about that the media (although we can hardly call Dr. Fraud the press) gets wrong. Do you think they’re any more factual about stuff that you don’t know?
Comment by Yummy Stale Bread on 11 April 2008:
I was actually shocked at how the show played out. Dr. Phil was very sympathetic with the existence of the community as it was being portrayed by Savoy and the Don, and even the audience was buying into it (even though I do not think the Savoy and the Don were portraying what they teach honestly), that is until Ross Jeffries made his appearence. Instead of being positive and portraying his teachings in a positive light, he decided to criticize the teachings of the rest of the community and the whole thing deteriorated because of it.
Comment by Donovan on 11 April 2008:
Ross seems to be very insecure in his business and offsets it by attacking others. He’s been very consistent in it, instead of trying to differentiate his qualities over others.
I’m sorry to say this but Ross really creeps me out and I can only imagine the actual women he pulls. Too harsh?
Comment by Matt Savage on 11 April 2008:
I totally agree, Ross really seems like a major creep on the show. I loved how he denied teaching/using hypnosis and then goes on to describe a NLP pattern!
It’s too bad the TMM guys had to be on the same show and be somehow linked to Ross and that third segment which had nothing to do with seduction community.
Comment by Donovan on 11 April 2008:
@Matt: I think TMM guys had a good response from the audience. Savoy and The Don did a good job. Ross was done in my his own bullshit when Dr Phil read his marketing techniques. If a guy markets like that, how does he treat women? Interesting thought.
Comment by Scot McKay on 11 April 2008:
I was pleasantly surprised by how Dr. Phil appeared to want to come at this objectively at the start.
But my gut feeling is that he knew he wasn’t going to have to push this cart in order to get it rolling downhill.
I believe the MM guys handled themselves as well as could be expected, although I was disappointed that they disowned some very basic MM principles outright. I’d say if you’re going to get on that show knowing what you are walking into, go ahead and stand up for what you believe in.
If you try to please everyone you please nobody. Everyone familiar with and sympathetic to seduction advice for men was all about them telling it like it is. Audience reaction by darned…be true to your REAL audience.
I believe Ross was simply being Ross, which is a standalone statement.
That said, the comment he made about how “the marketing has nothing to do with the message” (paraphrase) was the most meaningful point of the show for me.
As absurdly contradictory as that must have sounded to the audience, I believe it was a 100% honest statement on Ross’ part. And a true one, actaully.
Once and for all, there was an admission that “get laid quick” is what flat-out sells, even among guys who really would rather have a high-quality girlfriend.
I hope I live to see the day when a congruent message on how to be a great man who attracts high-quality women becomes de rigueur marketing. But I’m not holding my breath.
Two final thoughts:
1) Agreed: Having the lady who was conned on the show was completely uncalled for in the context.
2) When bar/club pickup is positioned as synonymous with “teaching men how to get better with women”, then you’re stacking the deck against approval by a female daytime television audience. This was far from “equal time”.
Note that David D. NEVER, EVER does TV interviews. There’s wisdom in that…although I bet he absolutely would have killed it up there.
Be Good,
Scot McKay
Comment by Bobby Rio on 12 April 2008:
anyone know where i can watch the show? Youtube? someone’s blog? google videos?
Comment by Truth on 12 April 2008:
I’m in Los Angeles, I sat in front of my TV as Dr. Phil came around at 7 PM on KCAL 9 on Friday… and a different episode aired. Is this on youtube anywhere?
Comment by Fab on 12 April 2008:
Yeah, I bet David D would kill on a show like this. That man is by far the best marketer and seems the most consistantly upright and decent dude in the community.
I dont know if he is the best at pick up or even if his material is the best but he would far and away be the best spokesman for the “community” as a whole, far more than anyone else, imho.

Ross is an ass. The MM guys were a little dishonest as well. But truthfully… What the hell did the conned woman have to do with seduction????
A true pua would never have picked up a chubby like that lol
by the way… does anyone else question Savoy’s sexuality????
Comment by TightGame on 13 April 2008:
Ross was an industry pioneer, and he’s probably the only guru out there that understands that slamming your competitors is good for the industry. From a marketing standpoint, the seduction industry needs to be closer to pro wrestling than golf. Keeps people plugged in.
A lot of guys complain about all the drama in the community, but you can only listen or read so many interviews about body language, or getting your inner game together, or “becoming a great man to attract a great woman.” After a while that stuff starts to sound like a broken record, but the guru drama always has a interesting angle to it.
I think Ross and a few others have always understood that ammogging other guys in the community is part of the circus and keeps the community from stagnating.
Comment by Bobby Rio on 13 April 2008:
Interesting perspective Tight Game…. and true to a point.. most of whether we like to admit it or not are glued into the drama. Just look how many comments Donovan’s Tyler bashing posts get.. same for thundercats.. as much as i admit i read the drama I prefer not to promote it on my site. while its good for business.. who is it really helping?
Comment by Donovan on 13 April 2008:
@Bobby Rio: Me. lol.
@TightGame: Interesting thoughts. Yeah, you’ve gotta have some drama to keep things interesting and yourself invested.
Comment by Intime on 14 April 2008:
Ross Jeffries definitely did not manage to convey well whatever point he was trying to make.
Instead of managing to put the community in a good light. He just starts badgering the Mystery Method, which seems like his main purpose on the show.
And now the fella does work for Stylelife and the Venusian Arts.
Well he defnitely can have an opinion about push-pull and techniques but he better thanks the lord that no one started reading out any of the explicit SS patterns, because the Audience reaction would definitely get very bad.
The problem with Ross is that he thinks that he is pretty smart, that he is putting people in their place, that he is winning AMOG battles that he is actually losing BIG TIME.
At least he seems to be able to not see negative reactions and does have some delusional confidence. Which would mean at least some of his inner game work may be working.
Comment by TightGame on 14 April 2008:
Well, when the drama gets into mindless name calling and vile getting spewed back and forth, then it’s not helping anyone.
However, within the context of a controversial thread and its replies (like Thundercat’s RSD rant, for example), I think there are some really good insights into this business- how products are promoted and marketed, the positives and pitfalls of this journey, etc…Occasionally when people get passionate and emotional they are likely to say something really interesting, even if the rest of the thread is 80% junk.
This could be just a rationalization, but I like to think I’m glued to the drama because the arguments get closer to the essence of things.
Comment by Sasuke on 15 April 2008:
The most stupid thing a PUA can do. He didn’t realize that Dr. Phil and all the women making fun of him. He just plain stupid. I think in the near future Dr. Phil and all the women will crack the code to counter all Mystery Methode / Mehow’s trick. Good luck. You just making fun of yourself.
Comment by Donovan on 15 April 2008:
@Sasuke: That’s a bit harsh. Whether it’s a good time on the show or not, it’s great publicity and adds to the conversation within the community itself.
Comment by Gentleman on 16 April 2008:
I was not able to watch the video yesterday. Today I tried again to no avail, until I noticed the video has been removed from blip.tv!
Is there any other source for this video?
Comment by M.E. on 21 April 2008:
I think that Ross is afraid and threatened by anything that has the potential to be or is better/bigger than him.
Ross teaching you how to get laid, by crude fashion none the less, while the MM teaches you a way to build social skill. Basic bull-shitting! And everyone bullshits from time to time. Like “hey, did you do something to your hair? It really looks nice” when you really hate it. No one gets hurt by that.
Now both sides lied on the interview. MM denied the about the Full Close and Ross lied that he doesn’t teach hypnosis. Now it’s no secret that men want to “full close” women. Women everywhere know it. But knowing that some men will try to hypnotize them will give the pickup community a bad name. I guess that is why he is ashamed to admit what he does.

At last I found place to actually see this, I’ve been searching for this vid for quite a while, big thumbs up!!!
There seems to be a hypocritical stance on both sides of the coin. Jeffries Ross should be on the show. Now matter how much we all like to hate him, he was the founder of this community. I still remember seeing him on the Donahue show promoting his book when it first came out. He did have his share of lying however..come on man nlp is hypnosis no matter how you look at it. The mystery method guys saying to be yourself is a bunch of BS as well. Your not yourself if you are using a tried canned opener. I find it funny how every one seemed to candy coat their reality just to save face value. If it where me up there. I probably get the same reaction as Steve…the dude that started men are better than women.lol
Comment by jonas on 28 April 2008:
from the game by neil strauss “I watched Ross Jeffries run a variation of my jealous
girlfriend opener (about the woman who doesn’t want her boyfriend to
speak to his ex from college), followed by a false time constraint. Afterward,
he even e-mailed and asked for a copy of my evolution phase-shift routine.
He was modeling me. And he planned on sharing these techniques in his
seminars.”

i guess we all have our differences within the community but as a whole we are bound to help thoughs who seek self improvement to envoke teachings that help men to express their real self. i feel neil strauss and david d to be great spokesmen for the community and keep it on its feet. neil strauss would be obvious not jus for his experences which were fully detailed in The Game but also for the large/constant media attention respected thoughout the community neil strauss would tear dr. phil a new asshole plus in combination with david d it would be a total smackdown its dirty wat this fukin dr. bitch is doin women benefit from this so what the fuk is the whole issue don’t women want a quality man who knows himself and expresses his best self and has a sense of idenity why are we men given the short end of the stick fuck the media and all the haters who try to supress who have the determination to seek the greatness within themselves keep the community strong u guys
,MANNIFR3ZH
PS- for some reason i kinda feel AMOGing could be a great social artform within itself almost like self defence if we were talking about matial arts in other words it can help u get what u want but also help u keep wat have like once u have a attractive girl a 10 lets say even though u have already been to that boy friend girl friends stage there are still sharks out there that try to break ur bond in an instant jus cause they think themselves stronger or better suited
