It looks as though Mystery’s reality show is finally coming through on VH1. During VH1’s Scott Baio Is 45 And… Single, I saw a 15 second teaser trailer about a 45 year old virgin, and Mystery stating he’s the pickup artist. It seems as though Mystery’s real identity is now a “Pickup Artist” not a magician any longer now that he’s on a nation-wide program.

Vh1’s “The Pickup Artist” looks like it will be portrayed in a cool way. The production is going to be very professional, so I’m sure the community will be given light in a non-demeaning way. Although, one can’t help but think it might be like the Conan O’Brien show a few months back.

What do you think about the show? Do you think it will be a good thing for the community or will it make it more mainstream in a way that hurts your game?

  1. it’ll hurt our game…this shouldnt even go mainstream

  2. Assassin, it will only hurt your game if you aren’t good in the first place. Guys that are very skilled in this will be able to still get girls. If Mystery can pickup beautiful girls with fucking ski goggles and big retarded hats, YOU can get them as well.

I guess I don’t have to worry about this though, since I study NATURAL game. I just use my personality to get girls. And man, it is so easy to learn. Nothing to memorize, plus it’s actually ME who is getting the girl, not the method.

  3. Game is game. And not EVERYONE is going to be watching this. I think it will be fun to watch, and its going to force more AFCs out of the game

  4. I agree with John… A lot of the guys who are in the community now wouldn’t be here if Style hadn’t written “The Game”, and now they’re crying because Mystery is taking the next step and making a TV Show. How ironic.

Overall it will bring the community a lot more exposure, which is annoying for the older guys because there will be a billion more newbies on the forums and running around asking women “Who lies more?”.

  5. I think John above has hit the nail on the head. If you are using natural game, which is the best form of seduction, then it won’t matter how much publicity the community gets because everything is based off of your life and not someone else’s.

  6. Does this mean that we can’t wear top hats and goggles without getting branded as a pickup artist?

  7. This show will only be a good thing if it’s honest and accurate in its portrayal of the community along with the goals of the men who become part of it.

“Natural Game” can be a bit of a misnomer. The thing is, “natural game” and “method” are just words we use to describe different approaches. I think the misconception is in the difference between the two. Using a method only means that you’re thinking things through in a deliberate, purposeful manner, which, big surprise, is how we usually deal with life. Natural game, from what I understand, relies more on spontaneity and improvisation. Instinct plays a big role whether you’re using a method or being natural, because even if you have the next move mapped out, you need to get a feel for the right time to do something.

I guess my disagreement is with the notion that self-honesty and methods are mutually exclusive. You’re not being dishonest with yourself if you’re using a method (someone else’s or one you developed on your own) that perfectly fits your real personality. What’s more, think of all the AFCs who get nowhere because of their socially conditioned behavioral patterns, behaviors they automatically engage in without even thinking about them.

  8. what do YOu think, dude? of course it’s going to hurt game! i might as well leave this business and go back to burger flipping…
    :)

  9. Will it hurt the Game? Hell no, it will make it stronger. Think about it this way, if our current tactics are exposed thus reducing their effectiveness possibly, we evolve new, superior tactics. In any game of skill and prowess the only way to get better is to play a better opponent.

I look forward to the power of the community being shown, as well as the skills we use evolving to a new level.

  10. Ridiculous. Women still need to have sex regardless of how mainstream your ‘game’ is. Biology will always win out. The only ones who have to worry are the ones who rely on the ‘tricks’ that Mystery will expose.

  11. haha hilarious, this will change nothing in the scheme of things

  12. I dont think that wether or not the show will hurt the game for “good” or “bad” PUAs is the issue. The only issue I see with it is that regardless of what the tactics are, it is going to expose to women the fact that the game DOES exists as well as pickup artists. And since, everyone and their brother will be walking around claiming to be a PUA, women in general are going to be more aprehensive to men.

If you think Style’s “The Game” brought on an onslaught of self proclaimed PUAs, wait till this his the public. It’s bad enough that I come accross guys who have done nothing but read Style’s book and think they are pickup artists, let alone guys who will be watching a TV show.

Though I have a lot of respect for Mystery, I have to say that I am disappointed in his decision simply because the entire idea boils down to one thing….MONEY.

It’s sad to see that so many of the masters are forgetting the entire idea of the game and turning it into a monetary spectacle.

  13. Can anyone confirm the rumors about Mystery’s show only airing twice as stated in this Google group:

    http://groups.google.com/group/pickupartists/browse_frm/thread/06099fae59db2cfd/5a00642a2886ea90#5a00642a2886ea90

That could explain the current marketing pressure coming from the Venusian Arts crew to sell their bootcamps.

  14. show looks like it’ll focus on the REAL business of the community.
Teaching guys who are really poor with women how to improve under the tutelage of a teacher.

    thats good.

Mystery is an interesting choice for star of the show. obviously he’s the biggest name of all - but the concept of ‘routines’ is one mainstream would presumably be less accepting of than ‘natural game’.

No - i don’t think the show will have much affect on our game. However, the guys who are saying ‘it’ll make no difference at all, none at all’ are missing the point.
there’s a reason why the community has remained underground all these years. there’s a reason why marketers as sharp David DeAngelo have never gone mainstream with it. there’s a reason why Style claims to have only sold one copy of his DVD product to each major city.

having hordes of guys using the same structure let alone material will bring about new situations in field, i’m guessing.

All the same - there were bitch shields out there before and there were shit tests out there before and there were AMOGs out there before. an occasional new reason/type of these coming up.
    No big changes, though.

for every guy worrying about not getting laid because of this, there’s a woman who’s worried about not finding a committed boyfriend!

    cheers,
    S.

  15. I have no problem with this show. The only way it can be done right is if they stay with the same group of guys the entire season. If the show has different AFCs each episode, the show will in all likelyhood have no substance. The simple fact is, even with more exposure most men and woman do not believe the material taught in the community works and secondly, most men just will not put the time and energy to learn the skills to become successful with women.

  16. [...] VH1’s The Pickup Artist with Mystery, What’s Your Opinion? [...]

  17. I personally have no problem with the show but I do see why some guys could be getting annoyed because this show will make afc’s flood in to the community & ask stupid questions on the forum. As for being spotted as a pua coz the show is mainstream, I dont think this will matter as long as you avoid some of the routines which have been used to death. The community will evolve, NO doubt.

Now the show as been on, what are your guys opinions?

how did Mystery look? did he peacock much? talking about peacocking, I have been hearing rumors on some forums that Mystery was contemplating writing the book the art of peacocking. Does anyone have info regarding this?

If he does agree then the book will be awesome, check the site http://www.theartofpeacocking.com

Mystery as created soo many amazing concepts though, he deserves all the credit in the world.

    Dave

  18. Having been in the community since 2001 and having met countless people in the community, it is fairly obvious that most guys use this stuff and never get anywhere. The only people I have seen get good are ones who were skilled before and somehow stumbled upon the community. The latter get phenomenal, the former usually end up giving up. If you cant get laid, you cant get laid this stuff going mainstream will change nothing.

  19. Girl: What are you trying to be, Mystery?

PUA: Oh haha.. that VH1 show? How cute.. there’s only 2 people I know who watch VH1… there’s my out of work cousin who loves watching the reality shows.. and my grandmother who’s trying to get “hip with the young people”. You don’t sit around the house watching TV all day do you? (blah blah) I can total see you with your own show (bust bust)..

Bottom line.. nothing changes. In fact, it opens up so many new areas to explore. If you’re whole deal is a series of lines, you’ve missed what the community is about in my opinion.

  20. Raguu. I love your comeback to the girl. So perfect and awesome.

  21. It will hurt peoples games, but I dont think it will make that much of a problem. As long as this show is the end of the public exposure, most people will forget about the show in 5 months or whatever, and in a year or so most women may completely forget about the show, as long as people dont continue to bring it up.

  22. I concur with 9999sn. as long as this show (or Mystery) doesn’t get massively popular, which isn’t too often on VH1 (I think there best show was about a crackhead 80’s rapper trying to find a mate amongst a house of 2 dozen ghetto fame whores?), and we ex-out all the canned material that was used on the show from our arsenal, in 6 months to a year the game will be right back where it was. let’s just take this opportunity to man-up (either step ypur game up, or give it all a rest and get back in touch with reality, lol) and prey to god that it doesn’t get picked up for another season.

if it were on MTV we would be screwed.

(scarily enough, MTV has been airing reality shows for other networks lately…)

  23. Women are picking up on PUA’s more and more these days….im sure there are plenty of women who have read up on ‘The Game’…and just like evolution they will find a way to counter ‘The Game’…..Now to the show itself….I respect Mystery and all he has accomplished…but this is a disgrace….It truly portrays him as a nerd wanna be hollywood star…If they are not actors…the men on the show are really lucky to be working with Mystery….people have paid alot to learn ‘The Game’ but now the word is out…the book was obviously a smaller scale than VH1 and besides Neil Strauss is a writer…and writers are the enemy so they always tell all….i mean Mystery…come on!!! Pretty Tacky

  24. In all respect for each side of this argument, to get a good answer out of anyone you have to think about it critically. What do I think about this show? Well there are pros and cons to everything and this show is no different. Pros can be that you get to see Mystery in action, you get to shake your head at how you used to be in the guys’ same situation, you get to see what the guys do wrong so you can just add that to your list of things you wont do in the field. On the other side, it does uncover the community, it puts Mystery in the position to being called a “Sell Out”, it presents a challenge by removing certain openers from your arsenal. Even though the lists can get huge of the pros and cons, I will go ahead and say that I like it being mainstream. Without an event like this, then the community would start to platue, or at least the progress of new things within the community would slow down. By increasing exposure, you can allow the community as a whole to grow faster than it would have if it remained underground like it had done for all of those years. New things will come from this and even when new situations come up in the field, it only improves my game by showing me new situations and allowing me finding solutions to them. That is what being a PUA is all about, adapting to situations to get your end goal. Community and personal evolution will come from this and I think it will be evolution for a better.

  25. I think the exposure iz good.I saw the show and am impressed. This just keeps guys like myself motivated cuzz I can witness TMM game in action.I’m takin notes, but I’m aware my game has to be tailored to my own personality.Only the strong will survive.

  26. There’s actually a free podcast that goes through the “nuts and bolts” on how to do what he does. Kind of like a how-to perspective as well as concepts. I’ve tried it out and have got some pretty good results so far, it really works. Check out pickuppodcast.com/pickupartist

  27. Man what a load of losers.

The show is for idiots, I mean what exactly defines a “pickup” anyway? getting laid? getting a date? getting a long-term girlfriend?

Almost any guy can enter a bar and find women to chat to, even get them laughing etc so whats the goal here?

Mystery needs a haircut too, I mean if one needs to look like a hippy and wear ridiculous hats in order to get laid, I doubt he is that good at “picking up”.

I am from the UK and let me tell you, I’m no movie star, but just being from UK in a US bar means girls are inerested then make them laugh and I mean please.

Also US women are easier to talk with, they have less hangups than in UK so I really dont see whay any normal male would need any aspect of the show.

I have watched it though, it’s funny to see a bunch of total inadequates get all flustered when they see a pair of tits or a chick with sexy lipstic, I guess many of the participants are borderline rapists anyway.

  28. I’m going to give you all some golden advice - FORGET ALL ABOUT TECHNIQUES. You need to think about who you want to be, and make every effort possible to become that person. Be relentless. Sure you could reel a girl in with some of these techniques, but sooner or later she’s going to find out more about you, and if she’s doesn’t like what she finds, what do you suppose is going to happen??

Excuse me for stating obvious, but there is a severe shortage of cute, stylish, funny, intelligent, cultured, creative, sporty, successful men who are single. Strive to become all these things. Appearing to be all these things is just not good enough.

    What are you waiting for?

  29. Oh, and when you get there, remember that arrogance is not a good look.

Those who truly are happy with who they are shine with an inner confidence that’s obvious to anyone who comes into contact with them.

  30. Maybe it’s about being happy with your own life and not requiring the affirmation of a woman, or anyone else for that matter. For a lot of guys, it’s about getting over your own fear and developing social skills. The seduction community banner is arbitrary and the skills are tools, what matters is each person’s reasons for joining The Game. Not to get all Matrixian on you *haha*

  31. “Excuse me for stating obvious, but there is a severe shortage of cute, stylish, funny, intelligent, cultured, creative, sporty, successful men who are single”

Have you looked at the demographics lately? Give me a break, DEFINE “Funny” define “cultured”, define “intelligent”, define “successful”.

The truth is our modern culture blows ass, both women and men are increasingly like overgrown children. I was listening to wayne elise “If you’re not getting a return on investment in your relationship, why are you there?” the truth of the matter is ALL relationships have highs and lows, and the law of diminishing returns catches up with you sooner or later as you get older and have been with one another for years on end (familiarity breeds boredom).

We just have a nation of fucking pussies.

  32. Game is for ugly dudes who can’t get chicks.

  33. MyKay - couldn’t agree more with all your points.

Thanks for your input Bob, I think most people could define funny, cultured and intelligent for themselves. Granted people do define success differently, I would define it as being happy, comfortable, secure and fairly content. Some would define it purely as being wealthy/powerful. Who would seriously argue that all those things are not attractive to many women?

“both women and men are increasingly like overgrown children”

Why settle for less? Personally I would not have a relationship with someone just for the sake of it. I would rather be single and having fun than be with someone knowing that I could be with someone more compatible, and be happier as a result.

“the truth of the matter is ALL relationships have highs and lows, and the law of diminishing returns catches up with you sooner or later as you get older and have been with one another for years on end (familiarity breeds boredom).”

Of course it’s undeniable that all relationships have highs and lows, however boredom does not have to be inevitable. In addition, relationships don’t necessarily “dimish” but change over time. Whether the change is good or bad depends on may factors, including the effort put into the relationship by both parties.

“We just have a nation of fucking pussies.”

    ???

  34. [...] Mystery’s show on VH1, The Pickup Artist, has gotten a lot of mainstream attention. As a result there are scores of people in that audience trying to wrap their minds around this whole “pick up thing”. [...]

  36. Haha, I find this funny, all of you guys being fearful of exposure, are you afraid because your using someone else’s personality to sarge? Well if your getting caught then… yea you are… and you haven’t moved too far past being an AFC

I gladly welcome the exposure, it will root out the wimps who can’t evolve their own game past stealing other people’s material
Your supposed to practice with canned material and then advance onto your own style of pick up that is based off of your own interest but apparently many many many many of you choose to never move beyond practicing and basically stealing routines

Why do you think all of the guru’s won’t publish things on the forums for free or just help people out anymore?

Because you get SCREWED! what you reveal becomes known because no one is capable of making their own material, you outsource yourself and are left with nothing and even your routines are stolen, you have to make up new ones

If your actually a PUA then you can’t get caught… the whole point of it is to get caught in the first place, just eventually not immediately

and lots of you still seem to think attraction is a choice, you can flat out tell a girl, hey, i’m going to seduce you here and now and then start explaining step by step what your doing while your doing it and tell her its effect on her and still pick her up with no problems, the mechanics for attraction will not change within our lifetime and most likely it will simply never change because it works biologically which is the only thing evolution is interested in

The only way to “counter” PUA is to be a better PUA yourself, a girl can game you out to be the AFC that you really are and thats about all she can do and the better party will always win

Exposure will advance the game greatly, if multiple PUA’s sarge the same target with perfect game new things will emerge, and the new generation of guru’s will come out of the wood work

  37. Even if having good game will make your approaches work with or without the pick up method being showed on international TV I think Mystery is a bastard burning out the method he sells so expensively, I of course accept the guy was the creator of it and has right to do what he wants with it but too much exposition will only hurt the comunnity making the material as cheesy as the typical pick up lines.

So let’s help the comunitty and ask Mystery to take the money he made out of this and go take a looong vacation
